A JOURNEY BY BUS

My father is a government servant who works at Baliguda in the district of Kandhamal. Although our native place is Balichandrapur in Jajpur District, we have been living in Baliguda for the last five years. My uncle lives in Bhubaneswar with his family. Last year my cousin got married. So we had to proceed to Bhubaneswar by bus to join the marriage ceremony of my cousin. Bhubaneswar was our destination. My father, my mother and my younger sister accompanied me in the journey. We started our journey from Baliguda.

We had to travel by the Baliguda-Bhubaneswar night express bus. A few hours before we started our journey my father had booked advance tickets. Seat numbers were allotted to us. The bus usually leaves Baliguda at 10 P.M. So we were ready at the bus stop by 9.30 PM. We waited there for sometime. It was a boring experience for me to wait in a noisy atmosphere. As soon as the bus arrived we got into it. We could easily find our seats. We kept our bag and baggage on a rack over our head. Within a few minutes almost all the passengers occupied their seats. It was a new bus having attractive body- building and comfortable seats. There was a quarrel between two passengers. They were exchanging angry words at the top of their voice. The reason behind the quarrel was that the conductor had allotted the same seat number to both of them. However, the conductor came and solved the problem. As our seats were in the middle of the bus we felt comfortable.

The bus left Baliguda on time. It moved very fast towards its destination. As it was night and the bus had push back seats, we had short sleep. In the first part of our journey the bus passed mostly through ghat roads. The road was full of curves and dangerous turnings. On the way the bus stopped at Raikia, G. Udayagiri, Bhanjanagar, Odagaon, Nayagarh, Bolagarh, Raj Sunakhala, Begunia and Khurda. Early next morning we reached Bhubaneswar. It was a thrilling experience for me as I had never undertaken such a long journey by bus during the night.
