I always remember the first train journey in my life. My uncle is in Bhubaneswar. While I was in Class VII, my parents planned to visit Bhubaneswar in Rourkela-Bhubaneswar Intercity Express. We live in Jharsuguda. So we started our journey from the Jharsuguda Railway Station. Our destination was Bhubaneswar. On the day of our journey we got up early, packed our luggage and went to the railway station at about half past six in the morning.

My father went to the ticket window and bought tickets. By the time we reached the platform, it was over-crowded. Some passengers were sitting on the benches and chairs. Some others were wandering here and there. We went to the waiting room. The train arrived after a few minutes. We got into the train with much difficulty. We managed to occupy seats with the help of a gentleman.

It was a general compartment. It was not neat and clean. Passengers have thrown the remains of eatables here and there. The hawkers came into the compartment and called out to buy the things they sold. There were quarrels among some passengers for occupying seats. I did not like it. Passengers should learn to keep the train compartments clean. They should not quarrel with their co-passengers.

The train left the station with a long whistle. It passed through important railway stations like Sambalpur, Rairakhol, Angul and Dhenkanal. During the journey we saw peasant at work on both sides. In certain place the train passed beside hills, groves, orchards etc. These natural sights gave me much pleasure.

We did not have any difficulty except our late arrival at Bhubaneswar. The train detained for about half an hour at Rairakhol Railway Station due to some problem in the railway tracks.

We reached Bhubaneswar at about 1.30 P.M. I was delighted as it was my first journey by train.
