A book fair was held on the Khallikote College ground, Brahmapur. It started on 12th February this year and continued for 7 days. So 18th February was the last day of the book fair. The fair ground was open for the visitors from 2 P.M. to 10 P.M. everyday. It was inaugurated by the Honourable Minister, Higher Education, Odisha. A large number of publishers and booksellers of Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Brahmapur and some other places of Odisha opened their stalls in this book fair. Even a few publishers and book-sellers from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and some other cities of India came to participate in this book fair. There were more than one hundred book stalls in aggregate.

On the second day I visited the book fair with some of my friends. At the entrance of the ground there was a dais and we found a large gathering of people there. We came to know that it was the meeting place of writers, publishers and other intellectuals. Temporary structures were erected as stalls. The stalls were packed with varieties of books. There were books on language and literature, science and technology, history and mythology, health and hygiene etc. The stalls were crowded. Visitors were picking out books of their choice and buying them. I bought some books on English proverbs and idioms. My friends also bought some books of their own choice. We left the fair ground when it was going to be closed.
Books play an important role in modern life as they are necessary in every sphere of life. It is said that books are our friends. Book fairs develop a habit of reading in us. Some rare books are available in book fairs only. Visitors can avail attractive discounts on the books at book fairs. A book fair is a link between readers, writers and publishers. Book fairs are becoming more and more popular these days.
