In a circus my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed some tricks. I was dumb-struck (got surprised with open mouth) to see a man blind-folded (eyes covered in clothes) shoot a board on all sides of a lady without hurting her. A goat walking on a rope being tied at both ends was another amazing trick, yet another heart-throbbing act with the motor- cyclists crissing cross each other side at great speed in an iron well still stands out in my memory.

Circus is a place where one visits for amusement and recreation (enjoyment in leisure). It is called a circus show because it is conducted under canopy which is round and under which the audience sit on all sides of the round area. Circus companies are many and they move from place to place staging shows. In India several circus companies are from Kolkata. The German, the Russian and the Chinese Companies are world famous.
In a circus the show is performed by about 50 to 60 young men and women. All of them are good athletes. Besides animals like dogs, horses, goats, camels, elephants, donkeys, rhinos, lions, parrots etc, all form an essential part of the circus troupe. A circus show would also have flying bars, parallel bars, rings, bicycle, cars, motor cycles and other equipments.
The show starts with the playing of band. First enter the area (open stage) the clowns. These clowns or jokers with painted faces wearing cone- type caps with tails attached to them look quite funny. They amuse (keep happy) the audience with their rib-tickling antics (funny acts). They do all sorts of aerobatics to please the audience. Then a group of girls riding on single wheels holding one another's hands make the audience spell-bound (amazed). Horse-riding by a drunkard creates laughter. Parrots jumping out of the fire-ring is a treat to watch.
