The game of football is very popular in India. It is played all over India. On the last Independence Day a football match was held in our school ground. The match was played between Nehru. Club and Gandhi Club. Both the teams belong to our town. The physical education teacher of our school was the referee. Two other local persons were the lines men. A large number of people gathered to watch the match.

A FOOTBALL MATCH

The game of football is very popular in India. It is played all over India. On the last Independence Day a football match was held in our school ground. The match was played between Nehru. Club and Gandhi Club. Both the teams belong to our town. The physical education teacher of our school was the referee. Two other local persons were the lines men. A large number of people gathered to watch the match.

The players of both the team were present on the ground at about 4 P.M. The match started just at 4 P.M. It continued for one hour with a break of 10 minutes. Most of the people were of the opinion that the Gandhi Team was stronger. But later it was understood that the Nehru team was no less. Both the teams struggled hard to score goals before the half time, but in vain. The players had a little rest after half time.

Just after ten minutes the players were again ready with their strength. This time the match seemed more competitive. While running after the ball a player of Gandhi club fell down and hurt his knee. Some volunteers took him away. On the 52nd minute the Nehru team got a penalty comer. They took advantage of this opportunity and scored a goal. The Gandhi team tried their best to bring the match to a draw within the rest eight minutes. But they could not.

At the end of the match the Nehru team was declared to have won the match. The on-lookers congratulated the winners. I did not like the match so much. I think the players should practise well before they come forward for competitions.
